How Counselling Can Help

Counselling and Therapy can help if:

  • You are feeling depressed or anxious
  • You have suffered loss, bereavement or other trauma
  • If you frequently feel lonely and isolated
  • You suffer from physical symptoms with no explanation why
  • If you have relationship problems
  • Have low self esteem
  • Have thoughts of hurting yourself
  • Work related issues
  • Any other issue

Therapy can help:

By offering a reliable, safe and confidential relationship free from the pressures of ordinary life during times of crisis or transition and supporting you as you gain deeper awareness of yourself and your relationships. The counselling relationship should be one in which you feel safe enough to speak about feelings that worry or frighten you when you are ready and not to feel pressured in any way. By opening up areas of thought with the help of the counsellor insight can be gained and new ways of thinking about difficulties can then be helpful. At times it might be that just being able to express feelings safely can feel extremely relieving and can be the beginning of healing.

If your problem is recurring then by exploring links with the past enables more understanding of how problems are still playing out in the present which are unhelpful. The therapist gently challenges these unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour opening up your ability to then make choices and possibly resolving old hurts and conflicts.

Clients have reported they have felt they have grown personally, felt a sense of strength and healing as a result of their therapy.  Counselling can be the beginning of healing and a life changing experience.

What will happen when I make contact and how do I make an appointment?

You will be offered an initial assessment where your difficulties can be thought about, to ensure that psychotherapy or counselling is right for you at this time in your life. Regular sessions are weekly at the same time each week to enable a feeling of safety and continuity. The psychodynamic model of counselling uses the relationship between the client and the counsellor to develop allowing thoughts and feeling to be thought about in new ways as they arise.

If you would like to make an appointment please call: 01923 262431 or fill out the appointment form on the contact page.

You may get an answer machine – please leave your name and a time when it will be convenient to contact you.
